1929 Indian 101 Scout
During the 1920’s, motorcycles were still making advancements in mechanical design but the changes from year to year were not as significant as the pre 20’s. In 1920 Indian introduced a new engine platform where the transmission was bolted directly to the engine crankcase making for a solid and robust powerplant. The robust double loop frame design was also introduced making Indians extremely durable along with superior handling.
Born in 1929 was the ever famous 101 Scout (45ci) model which had the handling and power all in 1 that just blew all of the other bikes of the era into the dust. The 101 Scout era lasted through 1931 but the Great Depression saw motorcycle sales and designs stagnate.
This Scout was restored over a 5 year period, collecting and borrowing parts from all over the world. Its success as a recreation was recorded in Greasy Kulture magazine and also by winning both Best Engineering and Best in Show at the International Harley Davidson rally 2015.
